After more than a decade in the Mess, I was tired of seeing the same recycled designs everywhere. We’re not robots. We’re sarcastic. We’re nerds. We’re mentors. We’re legends in our own weird way. Elder Goat was built to capture that side of the Mess
It Started in the Mess.
Around 2020, I hit a wall.
Everywhere I looked, it was the same Chief shirts. Same graphics. Same phrases. Same safe designs.
After over a decade in the Mess, I knew we were more than that.
We quote dumb movies.
We roast each other daily.
We carry stories nobody outside the Mess will ever understand.
We take care of sailors.
And yeah, we’ve got personality.
So I built the designs I wanted to wear.
Ones that capture the sarcasm.
The culture.
The inside jokes.
The pride.
That’s how Elder Goat was born.
Why “Elder Goat”?
When I was a young Chief, our CMC was the most senior and wisest guy in the room. We jokingly called him “Elder Jon.” It stuck with me.
After more than a decade in the Mess, I wanted to capture that idea. Experience. Perspective. A little gray in our hair. A lot of sea stories.
“Elder” represents time we’ve all served in the Mess.
“Goat” represents earned status.
This brand isn’t about ego. It’s about culture.
